An 80’s classic, this handheld gaming machine suffered a lot of abuse and needed a new joystick. I searched and failed to find a suitable replacement so I had to implement a workaround to get the old game going. The joystick is purely digital - either hard left or hard right - so all that was needed were a couple of momentary switches. So as not to ruin the look of the case I mounted switches on the back to control the movement instead of the joystick which actually works rather well for handheld play. It is fascinating to see the simplicity and robustness of these old devices. Not quite a perfect fix but it is very playable now.
